Making Tax Digital for landlords

Does Making Tax Digital apply to you?

Add up your rent and any self-employed income for the year, before expenses. If it’s over the limit, HMRC needs you to keep digital records and send an update every three months using compatible software, on top of your end-of-year return.

Own a property jointly? Only your share counts. Salary, pensions and dividends don’t count.

Already in force · since 6 April 2026

Income over £50,000

on your 2024–25 tax return

Next · from 6 April 2027

Income over £30,000

on your 2025–26 tax return

Then · from 6 April 2028

Income over £20,000

on your 2026–27 tax return

Why RentKeeper?

Most landlord apps try to serve everyone — letting agents, commercial lets, social housing. We build only for landlords who manage their own small and medium portfolios.

Most landlord apps

Built for everyone

  • Screens for agents, commercial and social housing you’ll never use
  • Compliance tucked away in a menu
  • Pricing that’s hard to work out until you’ve signed up
  • A support ticket queue

RentKeeper

Built for landlords who do it themselves

  • Only what you need. Rent, expenses, tenancies and repairs, without the agency clutter.
  • Compliance on your home screen. Certificates, deposits and Renters’ Rights changes, front and centre.
  • Clear pricing. Free for up to 3 properties, and our calculator shows your exact price before you sign up.
  • Talk to a real person. UK-based support from people who read every message and build what landlords ask for.

Simple pricing

Pay for the properties you have — the price grows with your portfolio. Each flat or room you let separately counts as one property. Founding members lock in their price for life.

Questions

When does it launch?

We’re aiming to open in early 2027, with waitlist members getting access first. Join now to get in early and lock in founding pricing.

Will it submit my Making Tax Digital updates?

Not at launch. We’re working towards HMRC recognition so you can send your quarterly updates straight from RentKeeper, and we’ll confirm the date before it’s available. Until then, RentKeeper keeps your digital records in order and you can export them for your accountant or your MTD software.

How is RentKeeper different from other landlord apps?

It’s built only for landlords who manage their own small and medium portfolios, so it stays simple as you grow. Compliance is the core of the app, pricing is simple and clear, and you can talk to a real person when you need help.

Can I bring my existing spreadsheet?

Yes, on the Landlord and Portfolio plans. Import your properties and past transactions from a CSV so you don’t start from scratch.

Is my data safe?

Your data is yours. We never sell it, and you can download all of it at any time.

What’s your time worth?
